Pawfect Delights does Halloween https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/10/pawfect-delights-does-halloween

It's Spooky Season and while we technically did the Christmas shoot first, my sense of order requires that I share our Halloween images from the latest seasonal mini shoot for Pawfect Delights while we're in the right month for it (and no, the fact that it was our 13th shoot was not lost on me).

Autumn https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/9/autumn

Playing with digital illustration and photography using some draft images taken for a gig pitch at the beginning of the year. It's not something I typically get the chance to do for work, but I had so much fun using photoshop for something creative to make my daughter smile while we were at home over the summer!

Chouxlicious Event https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/9/chouxlicious-event

Along with their incredibly popular afternoon tea delivery service, Chouxlicious will also cater and set up stunning dessert and charcuterie tables for events. I recently tagged along with them to such an event, shooting some set up and behind the scenes as Nicola did her thing, setting up the most mouthwatering summertime feast for a very lucky client's birthday party.

The Balm Pantry 2 - Portraits https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/9/the-balm-pantry-2---portraits For the second part of this little mini blog series featuring my latest photoshoot for The Balm Pantry, we're looking at branding portraits.

In my opinion, personal branding portraits are one of the most valuable investments you can have for your business. It can be tempting to shy away from the camera, and as a creative myself I can totally appreciate the urge to let your creations take centre stage and speak for themselves. But as small businesses, it's our individuality, our humanity that draws our clients and customers to us, what encourages them to choose us over Big Brands, and so getting to know the person behind the business, your space and your process is essential.

These types of sessions don't have to be posed or awkward. I believe natural images of you in the environment that inspires your work, while you do your thing, is the perfect way to give your followers, clients, and customers an authentic glimpse of who you are, what inspires, influences, and motivates you and your work.

In the case of The Balm Pantry, their beautiful home nestled in the Shropshire Hills, surrounded by natural beauty, wildlife and their wonderful pets speaks volumes about why sustainability and natural ingredients are the cornerstone of everything they create.

Pink Poppy Veils & Accessories 2 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/8/pink-poppy-veils-accessories-2 With even more variations and new designs now available it was time for another session to add to Pink Poppy's online store of hand finished bridal vbeils. This time we also worked on highlighting differences between various beading options, edge types and detailing along with overall veil length. As always, Yvonne's impeccable attention to detail shone in every single one of her pieces, and if you're a bride currently searching for the perfect bride, be sure to pay her Etsy Shop a visit.

The Balm Pantry Session 2 - Products https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/8/the-balm-pantry-session-2---products Back on location shooting lifestyle product content for The Balm Pantry at their home nestled in the beautiful Shropshire Hills. As with out previous session, our time covered a LOT of ground and so I have decided to split the blog into parts so that I can share the various aspects that can be covered when booking half day or full day sessions.

For the first part we're looking at products and packages. Since our last session a variety of new products have been added to the bodycare range, including bath salts, body oils and hand balms along with a selection of themed gift bundles.

Back to school e-commerce for Krafty Gifts UK. This session also included their latest addition of personalised water resistant garden furniture cushions. As with all e-commerce sessions I like to shoot close up detail to help potential customers get the most accurate idea of what they're buying, so with these I also wanted to demonstrate their water resistant abilities by shooting a little water droplet macro.

While I almost never shoot family portrait sessions anymore, when I was contacted and asked if I'd be interested in photographing a family who are in the process of finalising the adoption of their two daughters, as a fellow adoptee I jumped at the chance. Making the decision to adopt and to give a loving home to children who would otherwise be without one is such an incredible thing to do, and the Challis' have given their daughters the gift of SUCH a beautiful family. It's a privilege to document a little piece of that and I wish them the most glorious future together <3

Shropshire Macarons Personal Branding https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/6/shropshire-macarons-personal-branding covercover

After working together a few times to create a gallery of creative product photographs for Shropshire Macarons' website and social media marketing, it was finally time to get the man behind the business in front of the camera for some personal branding portraits which are an absolute must-have for any small business
It was a really fun session, which George brought a tonne of personality to and which we split into two parts, one indoor studio style shoot in my kitchen, and a more laid back, location session out and about in Bridgnorth.

For the session brief I was tasked with capturing the many different lengths, edge detailing and back to back beading on each individual veil which meant working in my home studio with separate backdrops and light set ups in order to capture each element from the ivory tulle to the different types and combinations of beads and crystals, in their best light.

My 10th (!) session with Pawfect Delights starred the faces behind the brand.
Fred and Florrie are a beautiful brother/sister pair of super smart Border Collies, both with a background in agility training courtesy of their lovely Mom Louise. Fred has lots of experience modelling (represented by Urban Paws), having starred in Adverts for Land Drover, Tails & Aldi and brought all of that patience and skill with him to the shoot, posing for the camera like the pro that he is for over an hour. Florrie being his baby sister, brought all of the show-stealing, step climbing, smiley faced personality to the shoot and between the two of them made for a super fun photoshoot to add to Pawfect Delights business branding.

JKB Proofreading https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/5/jkb-proofreading covercover

The January lockdown threw a spanner in the works for a few of my planned personal branding sessions, pushing them further back into the spring when we'd be allowed to meet with different households again and while that was rather frustrating at the time, it ended up to be a blessing in disguise because the spring brought with it far more colour and light for outdoor portraits than the earlier months ever could have.

Jessica's of JKB Proofreading session was one of these rescheduled bookings, and when we first spoke she expressed the same sort of dread about the photoshoot as I hear from the majority of my portrait clients. As producers and content creators we are happy to be faceless, to operate behind the scenes and it can be a huge challenge to put yourself in front of a stranger's camera, even when you know how great it would be for your branding. As I always say, I'm forever in awe of those that do finally summon up the courage to do it, because it's never as painful as people thing and LOOK AT THESE PICTURES.

Portrait sessions don't have to be torture, you don't have to pose or smile, or do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. My goal with every shoot is to get to know you, your business, what makes you tick and every now and then I'll take a picture while we chat and walk around somewhere pretty.

Black Cat Designs https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2021/5/black-cat-designs covercover Black Cat Designs are a new, Shropshire based business who create stunning acrylic signs and stationary for weddings, businesses and personal decor. Ever since I found their instagram I've been hoping for an opportunity to work with Krissy, and when I spotted their beautiful social media signs I just had to have one reached out to find out if she'd be interested in doing a little collaboration.

After my first ever styled shoot last year I came to really appreciate how valuable having a handful of professional images can be for a new business, even if they're just of one item. Having a high quality products and a brilliant brand ethos is essential for business success, but having some high quality photos to go with that can be such an effective way of kick starting your brand and showing off your products in their best light, but it's sadly often something that people aren't able to justify the expense of right away and so goes on the backburner for months and years.

I'm going to try to offer more opportunities for collaborations where time allows, so if you've set up a small, product based business in the last 12 months, aren't currently working with a photographer and would love to have some images of one of your products, get in touch.

Nicola is the powerhouse behind Chouxlicious who I've been fortunate to work with since their launch last summer. After such an incredible year of success with her Afternoon Tea service Nicola set up a Nicola Peake Mentoring, a service to advise new foodie businesses on how to achieve similar success, and so booked a personal branding session with me to give her new clients the meet the person behind the brand.

Nicola is one of those people who even after spending just 30 minutes with I walk away with so many new insights into ways I can make my business stronger. She's an incredibly inspiring business women, mother and friend and I'm so excited to see where this next venture takes here <3

Latest work for Krafty Gifts UK updating their huge catalogue of products with images for their latest listings. As always with these sessions we shoot the items unprinted, before the numerous available designs are added by the Krafty Gifts UK creative team in post. This means that all areas of the products which are to be superimposed onto have to be clean, clear and correctly exposed so that the final image looks as accurate and seamless as possible.
For this session we worked in some coloured backgrounds as well as styled ones with props which was a fun way to introduce extra elements to the images and help them to stand out on third party selling platforms such as Ebay and Amazon.

Using ingredients as props is a great way to add extra interest without distracting from the hero item, and bringing along something as simple as a couple of flowers piece of ribbon can provide plenty of versatile options for incorporating brand colours to your promotional imagery.

They also required a new set of images to add a new flavour to their existing ranges of biscuits and training treats using the same style as those we'd photographed previously along with a new design of beautifully painted edible alphabet treats to give as an adorable personalised gift for your Good Girls and Boys.

Mini sessions are a great, cost effective way to update your range with new products without the need for a full half or full day photoshoot and I have recently added a new option for styled mini shoots within my updated price list.

Working with small objects like jewellery can be tricky, particularly when it comes to styling. Using props that might dwarf the piece, or make it look disproportionately large isn't a helpful illusion to create when designing an image for an online shop where customers don't have the opportunity to see the item in real life, so I always need to be mindful of striking a balance between fitting the brief, enhancing the product and accuracy.
Working with Surf & Scout is always a fun session, Clare has already designed for herself a consistent and beautiful aesthetic for her brand, using natural props to reflect the natural beauty of her jewellery, so it's something of a luxury to be able to spend my time finding ways to highlight that natural beauty using various lighting set ups, to catch the light reflected on a facet of raw cut amethyst or  to bring out the amber tones in a piece of tigers eye or the translucency of the rose quartz.

I love working with Marianne partly because she's so gorgeous and therefore incredibly easy to photograph, but also because she's just got one of those personalities that's just addictive and now that I've finally got my hands on a copy of her book, it's a wonderful experience to get to escape into and wander through a world so intricately and fantastically crafted, by someone with such a unique view of the world.

For as long as I've photographed weddings I hoped I'd one day be able to attend one on Halloween and my wish was finally granted by Jonathan & Marianne who were married at Wellington registry office during that brief window between lockdowns in an intimate ceremony with a handful of friends and relatives before heading into Ironbridge for portraits by the river and then onto the Malthouse for a sit down meal.

It was a fabulous example of what have become typical of those weddings that have still gone ahead during such restrictive times, it was fun, laid back and of course, live streamed... But with spooky decor, obviously.

Chouxlicious Christmas Hampers https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/12/chouxlicious-christmas-hampers

Working with and promoting fellow small businesses is something Nicola of Chouxlicious makes a lot of effort to include in everything she does, which is one of the reasons I really value working with her. For this session we were shooting her delectable variety of christmas hampers and afternoon teas brimming with delicious handmade and local goodies, making them a perfect gift or treat for yourself if you'll be celebrating christmas in smaller numbers this year and don't fancy making a whole feast yourself <3
You can shop Chouxlicious' christmas range here.

Krafty Gifts UK 18 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/12/krafty-gifts-uk-18 covercover My Christmas product photography sessions with Bridgnorth business Krafty Gifts have become something of a personal tradition over the last few years. They are usually the first Christmas shoot of the year for me, and spark the first sparks of festivity in me.
This year we were updating stockings, which you can see along with their whole christmas range here. So if you're in the market for some personalised Christmas goodies for you, your kids or your pets while supporting a local Shropshire business, be sure to head over and have a look.

Emma & Jay https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/12/emma-jay Em & Jay Blog (38)Em & Jay Blog (38) Emma & Jay were originally going to be married in December but with all of the uncertainty surrounding weddings caused by the on again off again lockdowns, they decided to chance it and see if they could bring the date forward into October and be able to have an intimate Church Ceremony in Claverly before heading to Davenport House for a small reception. They decided to keep their beautiful blue Christmas theme, and I’m SO glad they did, so much time and thought and love went into making this wedding as stunning as it was, and it was so lovely to get into the festive spirit a little earlier than usual.

I arrived first at their home to photograph Emma getting ready and to finally get to meet her in person. Usually I get to meet couples a few months before the actual wedding, but with lockdown it wasn’t feasible, so being able to arrive before the ceremony and be able to get to know her and her amazing son Seb a little bit meant we got to break the ice before I started following everybody around with my camera for the next 6 hours!

Emma & Jay’s wedding was stunning and really did go to show that having fewer guests does not mean that you can’t go all out with every other aspect of the day. From the blue streaks in Emma’s hair to the giant Christmas tree set up at Davenport House, this was a Christmas winter wonderland wedding of dreams.

Ceremony - Claverly All Saints Church

Reception - Davenport House

 Florist – Ginger Lily

Hair – Stephanie Watton

Harpist – Oona Linnett

For their photoshoot we needed to focus on the quality of their inks and paper hen used in printing as well as how transferrable they are. Technical shoots like this are a real treat for me, particularly when working with brightly coloured items as they really pop against the white backdrop.

As well as producing promotional imagery for her book launch, Marianne was looking to experience a few different sorts of photoshoots to help her to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Studio sessions can be really intense, particularly if you typically don't spend that much time having your picture taken, so rather than asking sitters to pose and smile, I always try to make it a conversation with pictures taken in between.
Luckily for me, Marianne always looks cool as a cucumber in front of the camera.

Maybe it's her brilliant personality. Maybe it's the killer cheekbones. Maybe it's just her exquisite taste in coats.

The Balm Pantry is a brand new business run from a true fairytale cottage high in the Shropshire Hills. PRior to the session I met with Lenka, the brands creator to chat about her products and vision for her business which is essential when essentially creating a businesses branding photography from scratch. Their products are handmade, natural and with a high importance on quality and sustainability and so it only made sense to set shoot the pictures from her home.

Having booked a full day 'collection' session we were able to cover promotional imagery, modelled product photography, styled product photography and get plenty of extra seasonal shots for content to produce pictures to see them through the next couple of seasons, which is a brilliant way of getting a lot done without taking days, weeks and months to do it.

Autumn Styled Shoot https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/11/autumn-styled-shoot Portraits (10)Portraits (10) As I only work on a handful of weddings each year, styled shoots haven't ever been something I've thought of doing before, but when Nicola got in touch and pitched her idea to plan a styled wedding shoot to promote the work of some of our wonderful local businesses who have suddenly had their wedding season robbed of them this year, I jumped at the chance. And I’m so glad I did, because not only did I get to work with some incredibly talented people, but it was such an incredibly fun day. Shropshire and the West Midlands are the home to so many wonderfully gifted small businesses, and I'm was able to work with and produce something that celebrates that.

The shoot took place on a stunning day in October, on a farm and upcoming wedding venue with breathtaking views of the Shropshire hills and backing onto Hampton Loade's SVR station. With two gorgeous models, amazing décor, delicious food and drinks, a tipi, a convertible, a horse, a drone, a videographer, amazing stylists, and 3 puppies who weren’t necessarily IN the shoot but were certainly very much appreciated.

I first photographed The Smith Family back when their biggest was the littlest and I'm so glad we got to update their family portraits now that their gorgeous daughter has brought a little extra blue eyed sparkle to the world. Sarah and I go way, way, waaaaaay back and it really is a privilege to see a friend's family grow and change and to get to be the one to capture little moments like these to be treasured forever.

Black Tree Organics - Autumn https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/10/black-tree-organics---autumn

Black Tree Blog Autumn (13)Black Tree Blog Autumn (13)

Photographing seasonally or with a particular theme in mind is a fantastic way to create a set of current, relevant images to draw your audiences attention on social media as well as showing off your latest products in a way that's more visually interesting than a standard set of e-commerce shots would be and it's something more and more businesses are doing to make sure they have enough content to cover their Facebook and Instagram pages for an extended period of time.

Black Tree Organics really embrace this method for their photoshoots with me, creating various themed bundles including carefully selected products, gift sets, pairing them with appropriate props, setting up a mood board of ideas they love and then just letting me get on with it knowing exactly the sort of aesthetic they have in mind, and what 'themes' need to be covered.

For our latest styled shoot we covered Autumn, Christmas, Skincare and a touch of Valentines, which will see them right through into the new year with a full set of varied, individually styled product images of their latest products, but I won't share them all at once because I don't like to spoil, so we'll start with the autumnal set in all of its gold toned, moodily lit glory. I even added a little touch of Halloween vibes in there, because how could I not?

Reachout Arts Rebrand https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/9/reachout-arts-rebrand covercover With lockdown causing so much disruption for small businesses, Reachout Arts decided to take advantage of the time suddenly available to them by doing a total branding overhaul (with some fabulous graphic design work from Louise Russell Design), so we headed to a local country park to shoot some socially distanced branding portraits for the newest branch of their biz and to update their headshots.
It's always such a huge pleasure to work with fellow Shropshire based businesses, particularly ones run by hard working mothers who are so exceptionally great at what they do and especially when they know how to pull together a team of legendary models who don't mind climbing trees and posing in front of curious dog walkers:D

Sharron & Ian https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/9/sharron-ian covercover

With COVID 19 disrupting so many of 2020's weddings, rather than cancel their wedding entirely, Sharron & Ian decided to keep their wedding date and have a small ceremony with some of their close family and friends, and celebrate with a bigger party next year.

Their wedding was a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Abel's Harp, and while I was only there for a little over an hour, it was a truly lovely afternoon spent with truly lovely people and made for more plenty of lovely memories to capture in photographs.

Congratulations Sharron & Ian, see you next year!

With the aim of keeping the shoot as laid back and natural as possible, while socially distancing, and still featuring the same landscapes that feature within Marianne's book series we headed into Ludlow for a walk around the town, stopping every once in a while to take some portraits.
Putting yourself infront of the lense of a stranger's camera is an incredibly brave thing to do, particularly for people who usually go out of their way to stay out of the frame (I should know, I built a whole career around doing just that), but for me, a great portrait isn't about how confident my sitter is, or how extravagant a pose they are willing to strike, it's about taking a little time to figure out who they are, what makes them tick, how they see the world and then capturing a small piece of that.

September in all of it's weird, socially distanced, awkwardness is almost upon us and Krafty Gifts have some awesome back to school goodies added to their shop to get your kiddos excited to get back into their new routine!

As always we shot each item once, from various angles on 100% so that the huge variety of Krafty Gifts personalised designes could be added in-house, but this time we also had Rory model a couple of the items as well.

For my first ever completely remote photoshoot, I had the pleasure of shooting these wonderful pieces of jewellery created by Clare of Surf & Scout in the mini-est of mini shoots. I've stalked admired Clare's work on Instagram for a very long time, so when she got in touched and asked for me to photograph 3 of her pieces for a newsletter giveaway, I jumped at the chance.

For my second session with the delectable Chouxlicious we coverd wedding dessert tables and afternoon tea.
For this session I decided to include a mix of natural and studio lighting, providing high quality, sharp shots for web listings where details matter most, as well as softer, ambient light to create a more 'real life' aesthetic, perfect for Pinterest and the 'gram.

Knowing the ways in which a client intends to use the images can make a big difference in the way items should be photographed and edited, from the lighting or backdrops used, to the size and dimensions of the final files, so always make sure to share any important final use information with your photographer when arranging your photoshoots :)

It's a really tough time to be a small business, with many of us unable to work at all, closing our storefronts or having to reduce our workload to accomodate having out kids at home. I have felt truly privileged to be able to continue to offer my drop off product photography service for local business who have been able to continue with their online stores, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has worked with me over the last few months, for your patience and your business!

Working with Val B's Wax is always a pleasure, her work is beautful and a treasure to photograph. Hopefully her storefront in Shrewsbury will be opening up with the others when the Pride Hill shopping centre re-opens, but until then, head over to her online store and have a browse at the latest of her stunning handmade creations and branding revamp (these blush and pastel gift boxes are divine!).

Black Tree Organics 2 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/5/black-tree-organics-2 Black Tree Organics Session 2 Low Res (124)Black Tree Organics Session 2 Low Res (124) My second session shooting for black tree was covering packshots of their latest range of candles, reed diffusers and giftsets to go alongside the styled session we'd shot previously. Working with glass on a white backdrop is always tricky, shadows and reflections even in the most controlled environment can make for a lot of editing in Photoshop, which I don't really like to do if I can avoid it because it makes the process so much slower and I like to get images to my clients ASAP. So I ended up shooting this whole set twice, which is definitely the advantage of working from a home based studio, because had I been on location, this would not have been a realistic choice. The original set up worked nicely for the the gift collections, producing a soft, more natural looking light, but wasn't working at all for producing cut-out shots of the glassware or the reed diffusers, which were disappearing into the background. Anyway, long story short I had a bit of an Eureka moment while I was making breakfast the next day, set up a bit of an experimental studio using a pane of glass from a picture frame (risky, but worth it) and a bookshelf and decided to reshoot the whole set. It worked like a charm, produced beautiful cut outs in camera and overall I was pretty chuffed with myself.

Last Month I worked with Hayley Dunn of Shropshire SBM to shoot a quick set of headshots for her business.
It's always a privilege to work with people who feel comfortable in front of the camera, and as a professional public speaker, a couple of portraits were nothing and we breezed through the studio shots, leaving enough time left over to head outside and take a few natural ones, too.

Black Tree Organics Session 1 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2020/4/black-tree-organics-session-1 black tree 1 coverblack tree 1 cover

I've been so excited to share this styled shoot for Black Tree Organics which took place in February.
The shoot was a collaborative effort between Kelly of Black Tree Organics, Lindsey of Buy From and myself, at Kelly's stunning home in Shropshire, which somehow managed to have the best natural lighting conditions I ever could have asked for and made for one of the most fun and easy styled sessions I've ever been a part of.

Having such a large amount of products to arrange and photograph can often be a complicated process logistically, but with Kelly's clear, straight forward ideas about how she wanted her products shot, in which combinations and along with specifically sourced props to go with each item to be displayed, combined with Lindsey's detailed shot lists and knowledgability about how best to arrange each product in order to be able to market them in multiple ways, meant that a shoot that easily could have taken a full day, was complete in just over 2 hours with very little editing, no reshooting and no backtracking to cover forgotten item combinations.

Before any product shoot, especially for styled sessions I always try to emphasise the importance of providing a shot list with as much detail as can be provided, as something that might be obvious to a producer who has been working with their product for years, may not be so obvious to me, who has been working with it for 5 minutes and for this shoot, the amount of time and thought that went into planning that what information was necesary for me to know, meant that I could focus soley on lighting, styling and shooting the items instead of trying to decode shotlists that don't have much information, and it paid off a thousand fold, meaning we even had time to get creative, to experiment and play around with additional images that weren't on the shot list, too.

Working with businesses who work with marketing agencies is always a bonus. As creatives we have to be so focused on the service or product that we provide that it's easy to overlook or undervalue the things that fall outside of our areas of expertise, so having a third person who's job it is to know specifically how an image will be used, why it's required, who will see it and for how long is absolutely worth having if you can.

Black Tree Organics create wonderful products and it's such a privilege to work alongside such talented, dedicated businesses owner. Be sure to head to their online store and get your home spelling as lush as mine did when I had this range in for the studio shots (coming soon!)

One of the greatest things about location family portraits is when said families bring along their dogs.
They're wonderful ice breakers and provide a great distraction for people who feel self conscious in front of the camera, they give us new places to explore and I get to make a new doggy pal.

For this family portrait session we headed out to explore Bridgnorth's Stanmore Country Park which is a spot I've wanted to use for SUCH a long time. The spotlights created by the sun breaking through the trees are just gorgeous.

I don't market myself as a family portait photographer because I feel that to be one, it's best to have a studio, which I don't. But when the circumstances are right, and if I feel like my style of portrait photography suits what a family have in mind, then I'll do it, because I know as a parent myself, how fleeting all the gorgeousness of baby and toddlerhood is and wouldn't want to deny preserving those beautiful memories.

For me, capturing a child's personality is the most important thing about a photoshoot, what they're wearing, where they are or how they sit is secondary. If they're boistrous or shy, precocious or cheeky, rambunctious or anxious that's all okay. If they're happier halfway up a tree or cuddled up on their parent's lap or hiding behind their favourite teddy, it's who they are at that moment in their lives, and it's a good thing that we can look back at that and remember them as they truly were. When I look back at my favourite pictures of my own children, it's always the ones I caught of them engaged in some activity, or interacting with eachother, or talking animatedly, midsentence about something awesome, that make my heart melt.

So I don't force children into poses for the sake of composition or formality, won't force them to look at me, wont insist on dragging out a session past the point of enjoyment for the sake of a 'perfect' shot. And it's absolutely okay that not everybody wants to risk spending their money on a session that doesn't guarentee a perfectly polished picture of their child.

But if you aren't after perfection, if your kid is happier doing their own thing, getting muddy or pretending to be a princess or walking the dog or pulling faces or even just hanging out in the living room like these two gorgeous cousins, then get in touch and let's chat.

Working with small, clear and mirrored acyrlic pieces using studio lighting proved to be quite the learning experience in order to create the sharp, high resolution product images that were required, but being able to play around with mood lighting (and to finally have an excuse to put my modifiers to good use) made it more than worth it.

Wizard Express 2019 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/11/wizard-express-2019

On Monday Rory and I took a ride on the Wizard Express!
Beginning at Bridgnorth's Severn Valley Railway station we, along with a whole host of spectacularly dressed up guests boarded our steam train and opened up our invitations to be sorted into our houses.

On the train we were entertained by the fantastic sorcerer Cosmo who wowed us with his close up magic tricks while the Trolley Witches handed out sweets and their tragically teenage assistant gave us our wands.

When we arrived at Highley's station we were greeted by our house prefects and lef to the Engine House which set the stage for wizarding school. Inside we took part in our magical education with a variety of classes led by a host of professors before the final graduation.

Every single moment of the day was so incredibly thought out, from the sets, props, costumes and each character's rich and perfectly performed story team Reachout thought of everything to make the experience as emersive as possible. There wasn't a single performer I met who wasn't totally in character the entire time, even after the kids and their parents had moved onto the next class, and I hung back to take some extra scenery shots, the actors continued on as their witch and wizard selves, and it was amazing.

If you get the opportunity to pay a visit next year, you certainly won't regret it.

Mischeif managed.

At the time we didn't expect that when we finally did return it would be as a family of four, but even Fox enjoyed being able to shuffle around and dig in the sand.
Chris found us a lovely Airbnb apartment to stay in for the 2 nights we stayed to celebrate Rory's birthday and even though it drizzled pretty much constantly, the colder weather meant we didn't have to share the seafront with anybody but a handful of fishermen, a few dog walkers and a flash mob of swing dancers.

Promotional business sessions are a fantastic way to open the door behind the scenes and show your customers all of the efforts that go into your creations. Your creative processes are easily taken for granted when you're in your studio or workshop day in and day out, but for the rest of us, being able to see how you work, and all of the thought, time and love that goes into making what you sell, can be utterly fascinating!

Krafty Gifts UK 11 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/6/krafty-gifts-uk-11

This latest e-Commerce shoot with Krafty Gifts was all about the neon.
As always the products were photographed unprinted, allowing the Krafty Gifts team to insert each of their many designs onto the product images after the shoot, but I couldn't resist showing a couple of the finished designs, because they're always so fantastic.

Tang Cafe https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/6/tang-cafe

I recently visited Oldbury to shoot some promotional imagery for Tang Cafe at their newest independent workforce cafe in Oldbury.

The session covered environmental shots of the venue itself to highlight it's set up, all of the interiors and details which were chosen to celebrate the local area and some of the services the cafe offers. I also got to do a little bit of food photography for the takeaway meal service offered by the cafe and even managed to talk the business' owner Andy into letting me snap a quick portrait.

Promotional business sessions are always a great way to showcase all of the hard work that goes into running a business and are a great way to allow potential clients and customers to get a glimpse behind the scenes with a wide variety of images for use on websites and social media.

Bridgnorth Yoga Studio https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/5/bridgnorth-yoga-studio

It's always great when I get to work with local businesses that I already love and Bridgnorth Yoga Studio are not only a fantastic family run studio, but they're also my neighbours, my teachers and part-time parents of my cat who insists on sneaking into their house, so it was great to be able to work with them and show off the amazing work they do.

The studio is based just off Bridgnorth's High Town High Street and offers an incredibly wide variety of classes to suit beginners to experienced yoga practitioners, pregnancy and baby friendly classes, pilates and a whole lot more.

For this 'lifestyle' business promo photoshoot we set up a mini class and I photographed everybody doing their thing, which was just fascinating to watch because it's not often I get to work with people in such great command of their bodies, even if having to move higher and lower to catch their various poses made my knees ache for days (I'm definitely on the beginner end of the yoga spectrum and not cut out for such behaviour :D ).

Toni and Nathan are truly wonderful people, as are each of the various teachers I've had the pleasure to meet and work with and this was an incredibly fun shoot. I can't wait to work with them again, and if this inspires you to sign up to one of their classes, maybe I'll see you there!

Krafty Gifts UK 10 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/5/krafty-gifts-uk-10

Things are changing over at Krafty Gifts UK and where we usually photograph their products blank so that their many designs can be transferred digitally, this time I also got to work on some of their new, pre-printed designs such as this lovely collection of Alice in Wonderland mugs in a quick little drop-off product session.

And speaking of changes, I've done a little tweaking on my photography packages adding a couple of new shoot options including a product photography 'collection' session for those who require a full set of marketing images including styled and e-commerce imagery all in one shoot, along with a business promotion package for creative and service type businesses, so get in touch via the contact page if you'd like more information on this, or to schedule a session (currently taking bookings for August 2019 onwards).

March/April https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/5/march/april IMG_9955IMG_9955

Where is this year going? I blinked at some point in January and now here we are!
This month I've been using up some of my maternity Keeping In Touch days to shoot some photo sessions that were postponed at the end of last year and taking advantage of having extra time to be 'just' a Mom while Rory has been home over the Easter holidays. We faked a birthday party for her dolls, explored the woods, went horse riding in wales and spend lots and lots of time making her brother laugh.
It's been lovely.

The Bluebell Wood https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/4/the-bluebell-wood bluebell woodbluebell wood

It's the photographer's lot, to rarely be in a photograph because we're usually the ones taking it and while I wouldn't say I'm the biggest fan of having my picture taken, I understand the value of pictures well enough to know that one day my kids might want to look back and know what I looked like at particular points in our lives.

So once a year we go back to this beautiful bluebell wood near Bridgnorth, and we take a family portrait.

February 2019 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/2/february-2019 IMG_8897IMG_8897

Last month was all about Plastic Free February over on my Instagram where I sorted through all of my favourite items that reduce the amount of single-use plastic I use at home. The newest addition, but stand out hero of them all has been reusable nappies with their adorable prints, super soft and absorbent inserts and a huge community full of tips and trades has turned my attempt at reducing the amount of waste I send off to landfill, into a full-blown obsession with all of the many different varieties of nappies available. It's turned out to be a far easier process than I imagined and I really wish I'd taken the time to learn more about it the first time around.

January 2019 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2019/1/january-2019

1 week 21 week 2 January started out as a waiting game.

We counted the days as new year and my birthday and finally my due date came and went with no signs of the baby making an appearance and by the time I was a week overdue I'd given up any hope of the relaxed homebirth we'd been hoping for.

But then on that evening the sporadic niggling I'd been experiencing for weeks finally began to form some sort of rhythm, and before I'd barely had enough time to get my head around the idea that this really, really might just be it, he was here (arriving just before the second midwife got to us).

Our beautiful boy Fox Jasper Kit was born at 2:37am on the 11th of January, happy, healthy and at home and everything since then has been a whirlwind of medical appointments, nappy changes, learning how to do everything one handed and gushing about what a spectacular big sister Rory has already turned out to be.

RB Luxury / The Takeover https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/12/rb-luxury-/-the-takeover covercover

For this post I get to talk about two great businesses I got to work with, the first being The Takeover a design, marketing and social media management team based in Shropshire who reached out to me to arrange some product photography for their client RB Luxury

Working alongside the Takeover who were working on RB Luxury's entire brand design meant that the sessions concept, props, colour schemes were consistent with the brand's entirely new design style and meant that on my end the images taken were able to be far more varied, providing a number of image 'sets' to serve a variety of uses depending on the platform and format in which they will be used while maintaining a style specific to RB Luxury's aesthetic, right down to the being able to incorporate the brand's logo colour code into the backdrops I used in the images.

It was a great drop off session, made even more so by the fact I got to spend a day smelling delicious candles, which is possibly my favourite thing of all.

Opium Gym is a family run business in Halesowen which offers amazing personal training sessions and fitness programmes.

In October I was invited over to shoot some environmental promotional portraits of the gym itself along with some lifestyle portraits of Nathan giving some personal training instruction and some more formal portraits using the portable studio set up for the business to use in their online and printed marketing and promotions.

Check out their Instagram to see some behind the scenes of the work these guys are doing.

As I'm officially now on maternity leave until next year, I'm planning to take more time to experiment with my photography and take the time to shoot and share photos just for fun!

So here's a montage of my housemates making gingerbread biscuits. It turns out that Chris and I are particularly competitive about cookie decorating, but obviously mine were the best.

In October I made my second visit to Albrighton Hall to take some event photographs at the N.A.F.D Charity Ball raised by the lovely people of Perry & Philips and which took place to raise donations for Severn Hospice, a wonderful charity based in Shropshire.

I arrived at the venue a little before the event to take portraits of the guests arriving and then Chris and I spent the remainder of the evening shooting candids of the guests, hosts and the main auction event.

'Promotional' photography can be useful for all sorts of businesses, from advertising facilities to people who are new to your business or providing useful information to clients that can be taken away in the form of a brochure or published online to help clients or in this case families, reflect over their various options in their own time.

Lesley & Matt https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/10/lesley-matt Lesley & Matt Low Resolution (156)Lesley & Matt Low Resolution (156)

After meeting up with the ladies at the Bride and Groom's home in Shrewsbury to grab some bridal prep snaps, Lesley and Matt were married in September in an intimate ceremony at Shrewsbury Castle with a small number of close family and friends before walking over to the beautiful Morris hall for a second ceremony with heartfelt speeches and a gorgeous performance from Lesley's daughter -and all round rockstar- Saskia.
We all came well prepared to fend off the threatening rain, but thankfully it never became anything more than a drizzle and with every room filled with fairy lights, simply beautiful floral decoration and so much love for one couple expressed by everyone in attendance, there could have been a storm outside and it wouldn't have dampened the spirit of the day.
Congratulations again Lesley & Matt, you are a spectacular couple and I'm so, so honoured to have been invited along to capture your day <3

Meg Hawkins is a supremely talented artist and a total powerhouse of a person whose work I've admired since I first moved to Shropshire and stumbled upon some of her watercolour paintings. So imagine my giddy, fangirlish delight when Meg got in touch to invite me to her home and studio to take some new branding portraits of herself, her team and her pups (who are two of the most handsome pups I've ever had the pleasure to meet).

If you somehow haven't seen Meg's art before (or even if you have), head over to her website and see some of her stunning work for yourselves.

Autumn/Winter 2018 Update https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/9/autumn/winter-2019-update Christina-Clare Photography | Business and Product Photographer Bridgnorth ShropshireChristina-Clare Photography | Business and Product Photographer Bridgnorth ShropshireChristina-Clare Photography Bridgnorth, Shopshire

Hi guys!

I've been meaning to write this post for a while but it kept getting bumped to the back of the list of the many things I need to do and now that I'm already past the halfway point of my pregnancy (yikes!) I thought I'd better get on with it and get you all up to speed.

So after much pondering, I've decided I won't be taking an extended maternity leave as the approach to my business right from the start has always been designed to fit around my daughter and that hasn't really changed so there isn't really any need to take a year-long break. Instead, I'll be reducing the number of shoots I will do in a week and what sort of sessions I can offer while the baby is still too young for me to be away from him for long days. For my existing repeat clients, this shouldn't affect you any more than to make sure to book ahead of time for any upcoming sessions, but for you guys who have maybe been thinking about booking with me but aren't sure when/if/how I will be working after I have spawned, allow me to explain.

I will be taking a complete break from shooting as of December 2018 until March 2019, so if you have any big photoshoot plans for the new year, valentines, mothers day or your latest spring product ranges PLEASE get in touch ASAP and we can make a plan to shoot early.

From March onwards I will be taking on bookings as follows:

  • All studio product photography sessions will continue to take place on weekdays in the form of 'drop off' shoots, whereby clients deliver items to me, I photograph them and they are collected on an alternative day. For shorter sessions, a same-day collection will still be available, but it will need to be on a case by case basis depending on the number of items and the type of styling.
  • All location sessions will take place on weekends, this applies to all location product/commercial/event and portrait sessions.
  • Studio portrait sessions for headshots will still be available if booked more than 4 weeks in advance.
  • Bookings for weddings/day-long events will be available from summer 2019.
  • All shoots from 2019 will need to be booked at least 2 weeks in advance as I will be reducing my work availability in order to maintain quality as well as a consistent turn around time and have a feeling that editing times might slow down somewhat with a little wriggler in the house :)

That should be everything! I hope this is useful for you guys and if there's anything I've forgotten that you feel might affect you or your business please get in touch. I've tried to be mindful of maintaining availability for you all but without making more promises than I can keep and will be sure to keep all of you in the loop with any changes as they crop up.

I'm currently still taking bookings for Autumn/Winter product sessions, though September and October are filling up fast so if you've got any plans for new products for winter, get in touch via the contact page and let me know what you have in mind!

Ellie & Calum Madden https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/8/ellie-calum-madden Ellie & Calum Low Res (664)Ellie & Calum Low Res (664)

Absolutely stunning wedding at Much Wenlock PArish Church and The Mill Barns in Alveley for the wonderful Ellie & Calum Madden.

The first time I met Ellie I was taking her portrait picture for a local theatre company and in less than a minute, in just 3 frames she took what is to this day one of my favourite portrait photographs. A classic beauty and true English Rose, Ellie is a gorgeous person through and through and having photographed her many times since it was an absolute privilege to be asked to photograph her wedding.

Both Ellie and Calums approach to their wedding was incredibly laid back, making everything as personal, fun and beautiful as possible and then letting the rest take care of itself, which for a big wedding, is so refreshing. There was no panicking, no worrying, no fuss at all, just a beautiful day spent with family and friends.

Before the ceremony I paid a super quick visit to the guys and then headed over to the bridal party prep at Ellie's parent's house before going to the church where people from the village along with Ellie's primary school students had turned out to wish the couple well (and get a look at the dress, because of course). Much Wenlock church always makes for a great venue, with its traditional architecture, amazing light and quirky priest and the residents of the town (plus lots of students from Ellie's class) turned up to watch the bride and groom arrive.

After the ceremony, we grabbed a couple of portraits at the church and then headed over to The Mill Barns for the rest of the evening. The weather was perfect, everything was stunning, the guests had a blast and really I couldn't have asked for a better day at work. Congratulations again Ellie & Calum... Can we do it again?

Louise Russell Design https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/8/louise-russell-design Louise Russell Design Low Res (12)Louise Russell Design Low Res (12)

Louise Russell is an extremely talented Graphic Designer based in Shropshire who got in touch a few months back to see if we could get together and take a few branding portraits out and about in Bridgnorth.
Branding portraits are a fantastic way of showing your clients the face behind your business and giving them an opportunity to get to know who they're working with. Before the shoot Louise sent over a few shots of her brand colours and the sorts of portraits she liked and after a couple of location scouting trips to find all of the colourful spots town we ended up with quite a few useful backdrops.
Portrait sessions can be tricky sometimes, particularly when working with people who usually operate behind the scenes, but Louise was a complete natural in front of the camera and working in a real environment rather than a studio allowed us both to approach the shoot in a more relaxed and fun way.

Chris And Teri were married on the 14th of July at Albrighton Hall in a gloriously sunny, vintage wedding with some Peaky Blinders vibes, a caricaturist and Yam Yam Elvis thrown in for good measure. It was a really fun day, made even more so by the fact that the groom is my cousin, and so it was great to get to be a guest and a photographer (it’s far easier to direct a group shot when you already know everybody’s name).

Law Customs Session 2 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/7/law-customs-session-2 Law Customs 2 High Res (20)Law Customs 2 High Res (20)

For some clients producing custom and one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces the nature of their work means that it can take a long time to produce a single product  or that work is produced as individual items and not as a part of a collection and therefor a standard product photography which is priced to cover a minimum of 5 items, is overkill.

To cater for those of you looking for professional product photographs of your work for your websites, social media and print marketing I offer a 'mini' session, which offers a bespoke pricing structure depending on the size of the item and style of the shoot from 1 - 4 items.

If you're a local artist, designer or maker and you'd like to know more about this service, get in touch and lets chat!

Krafty Gifts UK Session 8 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/7/krafty-gifts-uk-session-8 kguk8.7kguk8.7

Getting back to school ready with Krafty Gifts UK. For this session we focused on their new holographic backpacks, lunch bags and pencil cases, but they have also added boot bags and messenger bags to their range, along with enlarged backpacks making them an ideal size for ring binders, A4 notebooks and laptops and as always, are forever adding to their huge choice of personalised design options.

Everything from the Krafty Gifts UK shop is exceptional quality, my daughter has had her school bag for 18 months and has been put through the sort of heavy use only a toddler can manage and it's still in an absolutely perfect condition, so if you've got a little one about to start at school or move into a new ear group, or just want something jazzy for yourself you should definitely head over to their store and have a browse in time for September.

As usual, it's never a dull session shooting e-commerce imagery for Krafty Gifts UK and this time I got to play around with the very latest addition to their range of personalised products in the form of colour change sequin cushions. For every Krafty Gifts shoot, I photograph a blank, unprinted sample of the items and then the team at KGUK transfer their designs onto my photo ready to be listed online. It's taken a little trial and error to find a way of photographing the items so that they are not only correctly lit, exposed and toned but so that they also have enough contrast from the backdrop for the design image to be layered on top, but I think we got there in the end.

I have been so excited to share this shoot I can't even explain it.

Luna Loves is an online store based in Bridgnorth that designs and makes the most adorable clothes for little kids that I have ever seen. I've been fangirling over Lola's creations for ages and so I was absolutely over the moon when she got in touch to book a shoot to get some pictures of her tutu dresses for her Etsy shop. These are just a handful of the wonderful creations available, so make sure if you head over to the Luna Loves Store to see more.

Studio portraits are great for technical imagery, but the greatest way to make a portrait more personal or emotive is to shoot it on location, particularly if that location has a personal significance.

Lifestyle portrait sessions are particularly useful for incorporating the environment as a backdrop, to help to show your audience who you are, what you do and what's important to by using a space to help tell your story.

In April The Onlyway Dress returned to the studio for some updated shots of their newest range of multiway wedding and occasion dresses to give to current and prospective stockists and I'm totally in love with these new sleeved designs!

The home studio is ideal for individual portraits/set-ups such as these, providing clients full access to lighting, modifiers and backdrops where location sessions limit the amount of equipment to that which is most portable. So if you're a designer or stockist looking for professional photography to catalogue your designs and apparel for brochures, websites and social media get in contact to schedule your photoshoot

Bluebell Wood 2018 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/5/bluebell-wood-2018 IMG_6696 collageIMG_6696 collage

After finding an ancient Bluebell Wood just 10 minutes away from where we live I knew it was going to me my favourite go-to spot for portraits. From the colours of the bluebells contrasting to the lush spring green of the grass and in the sunshine the dappled light on the woodland floor to butterflies hopping from bloom to bloom and my daughter dancing for the fairies in the trees makes the whole place enchanted.

Photography Packages: Standard Product Sessions https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/5/photography-packages-standard-product-sessions ecommsecomms

After spending some time re-organising my website portfolios I thought it would be a good idea to create a little blog series going into a little more detail about what sorts of photography sessions I offer and what is involved in each of them.

Firstly we'll start with the 'Standard' product photography sessions, which are designed for creatives and producers who require minimalist and technical images of their items. These shoots are ideal for online stores who use multiple platforms to sell their items as they are always shot on a white or grey backdrop, using studio lighting and a very small amount of props, if any at all. This way the images will pass the image requirements of more strict e-commerce stores while also providing attractive, clean imagery that enlarges to show your customers all of the small details and various angles of your product.

Standard sessions are a part of my drop-off service where clients can bring the items to my home studio to be photographed and then collected later on in the day, which is particularly handy for shoots requiring a larger number of images to be catalogued, freeing up your day and allowing you to get back to doing your own thing.
I also offer 'mini' shoots for under 5 items which are great for those who regularly update their stock/designs and who require consistent, high-quality imagery for their websites, stores as well as printed and social media.

All packages are digital and delivered via digital download in a password protected client gallery on my website along with a usage license. Low-resolution duplicates (also available in square crop if required) are also provided, which are the ideal size for web use.

For more information or to make a booking, get in touch via the contact page. I look forward to hearing from you!

Reachout Arts Session 2 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/4/reachout-arts-session-2 Reachout Arts 2 HighRes (1)Reachout Arts 2 HighRes (1)

I first worked with the Reachout Arts Team last summer to grab some promo shots for their initial launch. Since then they have broadened their horizons and asked me to go back and photograph some more images of the launch of their Reachout School of Arts.

With a wide variety (and always growing number) of classes in Shropshire I popped into the first day of sessions at a village hall on the outskirts of Bridgnorth -hence the fluorescent lights :( - and photographed the junior and senior theatre classes as well as a street dance session.

It was an absolute blast, with a fantastic bunch of kids and truly talented teachers.

Good 2 Great https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/4/good-2-great Good2Great High Res (60)Good2Great High Res (60)

Good 2 Great is a business management consultancy based company in Bridgnorth who invited me to their offices to photograph some new company headshots and to take a few pictures for their marketing of how they operate behind the scenes.

Since Good 2 Great is made up of such a large number of industry experts (and therefore busy people), we shot the session on one of their meeting days when most of the team would be in the office, using my portable light set-up for the headshots during a short break between two meetings. I then popped into a couple of the sessions to grab a few snaps of them in action before spending a little longer back in the office with the guys there, where I could grab a few candid snaps without getting under anybody's feet.

Being able to work quickly and discreetly within the available space is essential for sessions such as these, to be able to get the required photographs without disrupting a real-life work day.

Carding Mill Valley https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/4/carding-mill-valley IMG_0483IMG_0483

After what feels like forever, the sun came out for long enough for us to take a little family drive up to The Long Mynd and take a walk through Carding Mill Valley. There was still a little snow on the hills, but there was no way we'd make it that high anyway so we packed a picnic and successfully dodged the rain for long enough to eat it.

It's been rather quiet on the blog this month as I've been participating in March Meet the Maker over on my Instagram page.
It's been nice to have a change of style for a few weeks and having an opportunity to share images from my archives that had somehow been lost in the shuffle.
I've got plenty of new sessions to share with you so make sure to head back next week to see the latest!

Llandudno https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/2/llandudno Llandudno Feb 2018 (109)Llandudno Feb 2018 (109)

We spent the night in Llandudno, where I managed to find the most delicious vegan Shepherd's Pie at a pub in the town called The Cottage Loaf.     (Do you know how long it's been since I've eaten cottage pie? And there was so much of it I couldn't even made room for dessert which is saying a lot).

Our hotel was right on the promenade with a gorgeous views of the sea, the mountains and the pretty pastel Victorian buildings lined up along the seafront. We caught the sunset, and I got up early (because mom brain is forever, even if your kid isn't around) and caught the sunrise on the pebble beach before taking the Marine Drive around the Great Orne.

It was a perfect little break, in such a wonderful spot only a couple of hours drive from where we live. I can't wait to go back.

Conwy Castle https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/2/conwy-castle Llandudno Feb 2018 (42)-3Llandudno Feb 2018 (42)-3

We started the half term break with a little trip to North Wales, stopping by at Conwy Castle on Saturday to explore the architecture and enjoy the sunshine. I'd visited the castle before as a child, but had no memory of it being such an impressive structure surrounded by such breathtaking landscapes.

I was in my element searching out spots to take photos, and Chris in his admiring the medieval stonemasonry.
Couldn't find the dungeon or torture chamber though.
Boo.

Time for round 6 with Krafty Gifts Uk photographing unprinted cushions ready to advertise a new set of designs which will be personalised and sublimated onto the cushion covers for each customer order. This time we shot a styled session and as always, Jessie brought her amazing prop arranging skills to style the cushions for the various designs and we even managed to sneak in a few with our lovely set pet for the day, Maybel (as if she was going to get away with not posing for us with a face like that!)

For the second product photoshoot with Val B's Wax, we went for classic, sharp shots of each piece in the collection to really let the jewellery design and quality take the stage and to allow the colour of the pendants pop with nothing to distract from them. This time I worked using my home studio set-up, with the items being delivered to me to be photographed and then collected later in the day.

The year started with my 30th birthday which was lovely, quiet and relaxed just like I like, while the rest of the month has been an incredibly busy one for work, just like I like. It's been a great January and I can only hope the rest of 2018 is just as kind.

This month I had the pleasure of photographing for Val B's Wax a jewellery designer from Bridgnorth (you can find her in Central Court, just off Bridgnorth's high street) who creates stunning hand-painted wax pendants, set in glass and silver to make truly unique pieces.

For our first session the collection was modelled by the lovely ladies of Hidden Jems Hair and shot in Val's office/studio in the Highstreet, to create a set of promo images for Val's website and social media as well as for some advertising to show off her gorgeous designs at the NEC Spring Fair in a couple of weeks. If you're going to be there, make sure you swing by and see them for yourself!

Krafty Gifts Session 5 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/1/krafty-gifts-session-5

kguk5blog2kguk5blog2

Shooting for shops who sell through stores like Amazon and Ebay require incredibly minimalist photography with the object being listed taking up as much of the frame as possible, on a plain white background with no props or decoration. This means that the item, it's quality and design really has a chance to shine (which is particularly important for shops like KraftyGiftsUK who's designs are all custom, personalised and really take centre stage in their store). But minimalist photography can also make it difficult for items to stand out, particularly in popular categories within the site, so having some sharp, clean imagery and playing around with composition and angles to provide a good selection of shots to be browsed through can work wonders to attract potential customers to your products.

So I got a new camera... https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/1/so-i-got-a-new-camera 012018 6d (1)012018 6d (1)
There are a multitude of different ways to divide the photography community

Canon vs Nikon

Mirrorless vs …mirrored?

Cropped Sensor vs Full Frame

Zoom lenses vs Prime

The list goes on

For as long as I have been a photographer, I've struggled with the labelling that is automatically attached to the camera you shoot with because all of it is dripping with that word we all love to hate: Privilege.

When I started out, my first camera was an Olympus 35mm that my tutor let me use until I got a second-hand canon SLR that had been hanging around gathering dust in the loft and when I finally got a digital camera, it was a little Minolta compact thing that took only tiny pictures but worked well enough. It wasn't until I started university that I managed to get a DSLR with my loan (canon because I already had a lens from the SLR body). It was a Rebel XTi and I used it for YEARS.

None of my photography equipment decisions came from a place of endless choice. I never found myself standing in a camera shop with a bunch of cash burning a hole in my pocket saying 'hey, just take whatever costs the most and that will be the best one for you'. I never woke up on Christmas morning with a surprise top of the range DSLR waiting for me from a wealthy benefactor who could spare the cash and I never had enough disposable income from my day job (when I had one) to be able to spend my wages on photography, because well… Council tax and stuff. I used what I had and what I had was what a teenage student living independently could scrape together while still being able to eat.

As I got older, my equipment gradually grew with me, but it was a painstakingly slow process and each bit of gear I got had to be meticulously researched and selected so that every piece served an essential function that would radically enhance my photography on a shoestring and as I read these articles about the top 5 (5!!!) essential wedding lenses or how you can only be a pro if you can afford a body worth more than a car I started thinking that maybe they were right.
I mean they must be, right?
So when I'd shoot weddings, with my second-hand 40d semi pro body from 2007 (a very generous Christmas gift from my husband the year our daughter was born, which was nowhere near 2007), with my xti as a back up and with nothing much more than a kit lens and a Nifty Fifty, I'd notice all of the looks I'd be getting from the Uncle Bob's with their Mk III's and their L series and I'd cringe when they'd want to chat with me about our gear. I'd feel like a fraud. Like they were laughing at me (because they were laughing at me) and I vowed that one day I WOULD have a full frame camera, but that I'd only pay for it with money earned from photography and that if I'd ever made enough to be able to afford that, well then I could know that I was legit.

So I started saving up my earnings. Every job I'd put a little aside to put towards that full frame body that once I finally owned would really make me the pro I always wanted to be. I scrimped and I saved and I took photography job after photography job until I finally had enough money to even entertain the idea of researching what body I might want.

And by the time I could afford one, it finally hit me.

All these Uncle Bob's with their thousands and thousands of pounds of 'professional' equipment paid for by their non-photography related day jobs were using it all to shoot as a hobby and I with my 'hobbyist' equipment, was the one getting paid. And sure, their cameras were undoubtedly better than mine, but my skill was greater than theirs, my knowledge was greater than theirs, my photos were greater than theirs, and honestly, the people who are paying don't give a damn what your camera's called or what it's made of or how many autofocus points it has, they just care what you can do with it.

Shooting with a full frame camera doesn't make you a professional photographer. It makes you a person who can afford a full frame camera.

Shooting with a full set of prime lenses doesn't make you a professional photographer. It makes you a person who can afford a full set of prime lenses.

Ultimately, what makes you a professional photographer, is getting paid for taking pictures. That's it.

So about a year ago, when I'd finally got together enough money to upgrade my 40d to a full frame I researched for weeks and week the sort of camera I should get that would do all of the things I needed it to. And I still chose a crop sensor. It wasn't until a year after that, that I finally settled on the full frame camera that could benefit my camera bag. And I didn't blindly go for the most expensive one. I went for the most appropriate one for me. A 6D.

I chose wifi capabilities so that my clients can see the images as I shoot them.

I chose portability so I can use it in tandem with my 70d when I shoot weddings (which is the only reason I got a full frame at all, to give me that significant boost in low light)

I chose fewer autofocus points because I only use one of them anyway

I chose the 'baby sister' to the Mkiii's 'big brother' because the image quality is almost exactly the same for a significantly cheaper price.

I chose 1 memory slot over 2 because my years of being thrifty have supplied me with multiple little memory cards instead of a few large ones and I shoot weddings with two bodies anyway.

I chose a 2013 body over 2017's revamp because from what I'm told, there's a not whole lot of difference between the two and by spending less on the body, I can buy a couple (a couple!!) of new lenses with the money I'd save.

There are so many factors that make a camera model different from the next one, and until you know exactly which things are going to help or hinder you because of your own specific requirements, you can't say that any one camera is better than another. Just because a camera can shoot a hundred thousand frames a second and use its 70 million autofocus points, 200 megapixels and impossibly high iso sensitivity to track a shooting star across the sky, doesn't justify it's million dollar price tag if you're shooting stationary subjects in a well-lit room to sell the digital files for use on social media.

A camera is just a tool, in the same way that a pair of running shoes is a tool. And sure, having a really expensive pair of trainers might make you run more comfortably, but they aren't the only factor in winning a race. The only one, surefire way of being the best you can be, as with all things, is to train.

And while I still plan keeping my old faithful 40d, I've got to admit, this new toy of mine is pretty cool :)

Hogwarts in the Snow https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2018/1/hogwarts-in-the-snow

Jan 2018 harry potter (2)Jan 2018 harry potter (2)I kept this guy in the photo to provide a sense of scale. This model, is HUGE!

So you're going to have to excuse me because this post is way more personal than it is professional and about the equivelent of holiday snaps if I ever went on holiday, which I don't, so just give me this one, alright?

So it's going to be my 30th birthday in a few days and since I've spent just about my entire life giving myself reasons not to do the things I want to do, particularly if they were frivolous expenses I decided that in celebration of my birthday, I was going to take myself some places.

And we only went to chuffing Hogwarts!

I know, I'm still pretty excited about it too, because how often does a childhood novel get to be so popular that it turns into a cinema franchise that builds a tour of its sets that you can visit? And builds them in the UK no less. Not often.

So we went, and it took forever and it snowed, but I got to see my beautiful friend Becky who I never ever see, and Hogwarts was dusted with snow, and the forbidden forest, and Diagon Alley and about a million other things I can't possibly describe because you really do have to see it for yourself.

It's was magic.

As always, at the end of every year I review my packages and prices to see what works and what can be updated based on what has been popular throughout the previous year. Generally things will be remaining the same in 2018, but since I've begun offering a 'drop off' service for products to be photographed remotely from my home studio, I'm now able to provide half and full day sessions along with standard shoots, as well as mini shoots for clients who only need a couple of images of a small number of items and discounted prices for businesses requiring regular, repeated sessions.

All of these studio sessions are priced based on style of the photoshoot rather than by an hourly rate, meaning you get far more bang for your buck and I can take my time to create a wider variety of images without needing to watch the clock.

So if you're planning to book a photoshoot for your business or service this year, whether we've worked together before or if you're just comparing prices to see which would make the best fit, please get in touch via the contact page for a run down of my 2018 prices and we can chat about what you have in mind!

Looking back over the last year and reflecting on all of the wonderful changes there have been in my life and in particular, my business in the last 12 months. I've been so utterly privileged to work with some truly inspiring small business owners, combining our collective skills into something greater than we could have done alone and I'm so fortunate to have an excuse to put my passion into practise and call it my job. I owe so much to this lovely town and the people within it, and I'm so, so excited to see what new opportunities, ideas, collaborations and friendships 2018 will bring ❤

Dog and Collar - 'Drop Off' Sessions https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/12/dog-and-collar---drop-off-sessions 4. Collars LowRes (9)4. Collars LowRes (9)

From a recent 'drop-off' session with Dog And Collar, shooting e-commerce imagery of their regally inspired pet accessories.
The shoot involved getting shots of each of the collars and leads in all of the available fabrics and then various colour swatches for each of the fabrics along with other add-ons such as engraved collar clips and tags. Because the session was very minimalist in terms of styling, but very detailed in terms of the amount of items that needed to be photographed in many different configurations, the products were dropped off at my home studio along with a detailed outline of all of the shots required, and then collected later on in the day allowing me to provide a much longer session and a wider selection of images than I usually would when working on location and meant that the client could get back to doing what they do best without needing to take time out of their work day.

When shooting for online sellers, many find it useful to have a wide variety of images of each item, including close-ups to show the materials and quality, wide shots for scale and over-all shape and then all of the different colours, fabrics, sizes, etc so that when customers are viewing the items in the e-store, they can scroll through and see all of the choices available.

'Drop off' sessions are absolutely ideal for this, and so if you're looking to update your online shop or product catalogue, get in touch to find out more.

I recently got in touch with LoveBridgnorth about their #BridgnorthChristmas social media campaign designed to promote our lovely town and its independent stores over the holiday season. Now while I'm obviously not a retailer myself, I work with lots of them, and think it's so incredibly important to support small businesses however we can if we want to see them flourish. So I offered to volunteer my photography skills to take pictures of some of the amazing Christmas Window Displays on the highstreet and show off some of the fabulous businesses that Bridgnorth has to offer.

Their christmas decor is just gorgeous, and as with all of their items, their Christmas range is classic and minimal enough that much of it, wouldn't even need to be taken down after the holidays are over. Every business has its own unique aesthetic and it's really important that images shot for retailers are consistant with that aesthetic across the various platforms they will be used on, while keeping within the constraints presented by each platform and while still displaying the products in a way that makes them as true to life to customers as possible to depict all of the quality and detail that an online shopper wouldn't be able to experience first hand.

I love working closely with clients to bring their own store's personal style into their images, and That Nice Interiors is one of the most fun and challenging to do this with. With a monochrome colour pallet and a preference for minimalism, we rely on texture, composition, styling and lighting choices to make images something more than basic ecomms shots, keep them up to date with seasonal trends, and to make each set of images different than the last.

Sleeklens Workflow Review https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/10/sleeklens Recently I was contacted by Sleeklens, a company who create post-production workflows for Lightroom and Photoshop and who very generously gave me the opportunity to try out their Landscape: Adventure workflow in exchange for a review.

For my own work, I typically create actions that only marginally alter the sharpness, white balance, contrast, etc of my images, as a quick way of achieving a consistent effect over a set and while I've often been tempted, I’ve never purchased an action, ever, because I'm a control freak and I have a ridiculous need to do things myself, from scratch. But as I’m not one to pass up an opportunity to mix things up a bit and try something new, and this seemed like a brilliant chance to find out what I'd been missing.

The workflow was incredibly easy to install, and the little user guide that came with it was really helpful because the workflow has a LOT of actions in it, so having something to reference which gave me something of an idea of what results each combination might have on my image saved me a lot of time going back and forth trying everything out.

The first image I edited was this sunrise in the town. Straight out of camera, the contrast was pretty low and while I like the perspective, the image definitely needed a kick.  For the test, I applied no alterations to the images besides those available in the workflow and while at first -as with everything- it was a little tricky to get my head around how best to apply the layers, but once I'd familiarised myself with a couple of the actions I liked best, it was a breeze.

All of the individual actions can be altered by lowering and raising the opacity, and some of them can be 'painted' on in a layer mask with a brush tool which is really useful, especially when using effects that make the sky more dramatic, or if you want to remove the effect from one area of the image, but not from the whole thing, and so on.

sleeklens 2 edited combosleeklens 2 edited combo

Actions Used:

  • Base: Expanded dynamic Range
  • Tone: Cinematic
  • Tone: Colour Pop
  • Exposure: Reduce Highlights
  • Allinone: Dawn Rising

The second image I pulled from my archive as an example of a shot which had a pretty even exposure straight out of camera. I found that during my first play around with the workflow that the actions are very intense, designed to boost landscape images that may have been shot in lower light, a few stops underexposed, or in dull weather and so I wanted to see if I could find a combination that would provide more of a polishing effect, rather than a transformative one.

As it turns out, you can! But I really think this particular workflow is more suitable for sweeping vistas with wide horizon's and dramatic skies that need a significant boost in the shadows or highlights and which have less in the way of detail. The clarity boost is nice and subtle though, as was the warming highlights to help correct to cool tones in the shade.

sleeklens 3 edited combosleeklens 3 edited combo

          Actions Used:

  • Base: Clarity
  • Tone: Dark & Stormy
  • Enhance: Warm Highlights

And finally, for my 3rd image I shot a more classic landscape image to play around with. I loved the desaturation, but I did find that one of the effects created a bit of colour banding in the shadows at the bottom of the shot. And it's these sorts of issues that make me wary of using actions usually, because if once applied the effect produces an issue like this, you then have to reverse edit to find the source of the problem and fix it, which isn't really an issue if you understand photoshop well but it does mean you end up using more time, rendering the process a bit redundant.

sleeklens 4 edited combosleeklens 4 edited combo

Actions Used:

  • Base: Desaturated

  • Exposure: Contrast

Thoughts

Many of the actions are a little too dramatic for my taste, though I definitely think that with such an extensive a catalogue available, that there are plenty of options that would be more in tune with the kind of aesthetic that I go for. The workflows are incredibly user friendly, right down to the action title choices which for the most part are pretty self explainatory. You can mix and match how they are combined to get a huge variety of effects without needing to know all of the complicated aspects of photoshop or spending hours to achieve them and I think it would make a perfect purchase for anyone who loves photography but doesn’t have much experience with all of the ins and outs of photoshop, or just for someone who enjoys experimenting with different effects to shake up the way they edit their photos. I certainly got a kick out of applying looks to my images that it usually wouldn't occur to me to try, and having access to the demos was a handy way of trying out some new tricks to add a shot of creativity to my photography which can sometimes be difficult to do when you comfortably find your signature style go-to editing choices.

You can check out the Sleeklens website here, they have plenty of user guides and demos to browse along with their many, many workflows. And if you like the look of the Landscape: Adventure workflow, you can buy yourself a download, here.

Earlier in the year I began offering multi-session packages to some of the Bridgnorth Based businesses that I work with, allowing clients to book a number of shorter session (1-2 hours each) over a specific period of time.

I find that for some businesses, booking shorter, more frequent sessions which enables them to build a catalogue of their products over a longer period of time, provides a flexibility and adaptability that wouldn't be possible if we shot everything all at once, in one huge photoshoot. By staggering the sessions, styling, content and the over all mood of the images can adapt and stay up to date with new trends and changing seasons without the need to spend a fortune booking huge sessions every few months.

thats nice 10 blogthats nice 10 blog

For our latest session we shot picture frames, using some gorgeous autumnal styling mixed in with That's Nice's signature minimalist colour palette and I used a little bit of photoshop trickery to insert digital images into the frames rather than getting them printed, allowing the final images to have more variety.

While I find it's best to get as much work fone in-camera as possible, sometimes a little post-production can go a long way, particularly when working in a shop environment where the lighting and space aren't primarily designed for photography.

The End of August https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/9/the-end-of-august September col 3September col 3 At the end of August Rory and I made a visit to David Austin Roses with my mother-in-law. I'd never been before, and she hadn't in a long time and wanted to stop by before the end of the season to begin picking out plants for a rose garden she's planning and if it isn't one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited I'd be surprised.

It was a drizzly day, and many of the bushes had already begun to shed their roses, filling the air with the sweet and pungent smell of their perfume. The remaining flowers bloomed heavily and in their deepest shades in a final burst of colour against the dreary overcast sky and the occasional speckled sunlight turned the rain spattered petals to glitter.

If you have been following my blog for a while, you might remember a couple of posts from last year, sharing the results of some natural vs artificial light experiments in my light tent. This time I wanted to see how many different ways I could shoot one subject using a single light in one position, with one backdrop and a reflector. I love setting myself little experiments like this, and I'm hoping to do more maybe including the set-ups so if you a light nerd like me and find this sort of thing interesting, send me some suggestions for for subjects or lighting.

Summer Rain https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/7/summer-rain Summer RainSummer Rain

We're one week into the school summer holidays and so far it's been mostly soggy keeping us stuck inside and our house being thrown into chaos while we have a new bathroom fitted. It's been stressful, so I've been self soothing by taking pictures of pretty things and thanking my lucky stars that I actually rather like the rain.

I’ve recently put together a selection of digital, multi-session packages offering product and commercial photography designed for businesses that require regular photography work to promote their products online, like these images shot recently for The Homemade Tie Company.

This is particularly useful for sellers in need of dimagery that needs to stay up to date with seasonal trends, as well as for building a catalogue of commercial images of stock, products, designs and other creations which are regularly being updated online for websites, online shops and social media.

Get in touch via the contact page for more info.

Ropewalk Dingle https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/7/ropewalk-dingle

The Ropewalk Dingle is a little patch of woodland in Bridgnorth High Town. Once an orchard, a few remaining fruit trees litter the landscape along with nature walks and a disused train tunnel. And you just know I'm going to be returning to shoot it again in the autumn. Very creepy indeed.

That's Nice Interiors relaunch https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/7/thats-nice-interiors-relaunch

Those of you who have been following this blog for a while will be aware that I've been working with the wonderful Natalie of That's Nice Interiors, shooting products to build a catalogue of images for their online store. Recently Natalie has taken over the running of the high street shop, too and over the last fer weeks has been working like a crazy person, transforming the space and putting her own stamp on it. She very kindly invited me to the launch part before the store's grand opening, and I snapped a few pictures to give you a taster of what the place looks like now. But if you're in Bridgnorth, you should definitely go and see for yourself! It's gorgeous.

Weekend Wanderings https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/7/weekend-wanderings Christina-Clare Photography | Astley AbbottsChristina-Clare Photography | Astley Abbotts Last weekend we went for a picnic beside the river after a walk through the woods that run alongside the old traintrack from Bridgnorth to Ironbridge. It's one of our favourite spots around here, and has been since I first met Chris. The woods are old and wild and at this time of year so beautifully lush and green, but the paths are clear enough that Rory can run around and explore and there are rarely any other people around, besides the odd cyclist or dog walker.

She spent most of her time skimming stones and collecting fallen feathers to make a crown from them until she looked like some sort of majestic bird queen.

Krafty Gifts Uk - Session 3 https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/7/kraftygifts3

KRUK 3 blog (3)KRUK 3 blog (3)

So much of our shopping is done online these days so a business' website, social media pages and online store often plays the role of a virtual window display, the first point of contact for your customers to decide if they want to come inside, look around and make a purchase. But as they are making this decision soley on what they see, having images that accurately show the craftsmanship, quality, style, of what you're selling, is essential.

The beauty of working with independent, small businesses is that each one of them has their own unique aesthetic and differing requirements for their images depending on where the products will be advertised, which means we aren't ever confined to shooting with a 'one size fits all' approach which would lead to the sorts of images people would scroll by without a second look. So even when shooting something as strict as eCommerce images on a white backdrop, we can use light, styling and props to make sure the images stand out from the crowd, that attract the right audience, catch a shoppers eye and that give them the best possible representation of your products.

Bridgnorth Castle Garden https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/7/bridgnorth-castle-garden

Bridgnorth Castle GardenBridgnorth Castle Garden Since moving to Bridgnorth, one of my favorite hobbies has been exploring the sometimes hidden, usually unexpected and always plentiful areas of beauty that this town has to offer. Initially, these missions were inspired by a desire to catalogue all of the places I'd like to one day use as a backdrop for a photoshoot (you can view some more of these posts here), but after spending so much time walking around the town while training for the Bridgnorth Walk, I've developed a genuine enjoyment from just getting away from my desk, strolling around no matter the weather, and admiring the things that are so easily taken for granted when you become used to your environment.  I still wouldn't exactly describe myself as outdoorsy, but moving here has reawakened a fascination with unpredictability of the nature that surrounds us, and I'm hoping that with my camera in hand Ill have an excuse to keep this spark ignited, and to get back in the habit of using my (spare) camera for something that's just for me.

So I decided to start this little project where I started.

Bridgnorth Castle GardenBridgnorth Castle Garden

The castle garden in Bridgnorth was first place I fell in love with in this town, a place I would walk to every morning with my daughter, so she could play while I adjusted to my new surroundings. It's just so impossibly pretty there, so well cared for, and in July it's arguably at it's prettiest. Every flower is in bloom, every lawn perfectly tended. There's a nature  walk, and a veggie patch, military themed topiary, a bandstand and a gravity defying wall that people keep insisting to me 'is' a castle, though I'm sure anybody would have a hard time living in it, in its current state. There's a bandstand and little stream and views of the Severn Valley Railway where you can sit and watch the steam trains go by. And it doesn't matter when I visit, I've watched the sunrise there in the dead of winter, kicked the leaves along the castle walk in the autumn, made daisy chains for Rory in the springtime and enjoyed the ice cream in the summer, it's always beautiful and always different.

I have recently started working with kraft Gifts, an online store with it's HQ in Bridgnorth who sell an absolutely huge and growing number of personalized gifts with various hand drawn designs. Such a large variety of designs in fact, that it was simpler for us to shoot the bags and lunch bags without any design on them, and inserted the illustrations in after the session, (hence the blank panels) but you can view all of the available designs here

Emilia's Christening https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/6/emilias-christening

Emilia Rose's ChristeningEmilia Rose's Christening In May I travelled over to my original neck of the woods, to The Holy Trinity Church in Short Heath to photograph my very first christening, for the wonderful 10 week old Emilia Rose. I'd been prepared for a grouchy newborn (I mean, who wouldn't be grouchy about a stranger sprinkling water on your hair when you could be having a nap, and then some random lady following you around with a camera for a few hours?), but Emilia was the most relaxed baby in the world, with the sweetest little baby face and along with her charming big brothers who never ran out of smiles for me, made my job a particularly easy one.

After the service we popped over the road to the Duke of Cambridge pub, for cake and nibbles. But mostly cake.

Lavender Cottage https://www.christina-clare.co.uk/blog/2017/5/lavender-cottage

Lavender Cottage is a brand new holiday cottage available to rent in Astley Abbotts, just a little outside of Bridgnorth High Town. The cottage was converted from the old Lavender Farm shop, into a 3 bedroom property with a fully renovated interior and surrounded by beautiful, rural Shropshire countryside.
I was invited along to take some commercial property photography of the cottage for the online holiday booking sites that it will be hosted on, which was a treat for me, given the cottage's beautiful views, wonderful sunlight and the fact that it's located in a parish I know rather well.

I'm so excited to finally share these images from my latest session with That's Nice Interiors. Once again we worked out on location, this time visiting a local country park and setting up a most decadent table lay out of pretty glassware, dinnerware, candles and delicious food. We picked a time during the late afternoon, catching the sun just at the perfect time to create this gorgeous summer evening glow, perfect for a warm weather picnic.

Easter provided me with a little bit of a break between photo sessions, so I decided to spend an afternoon playing around with some light set-ups in my studio at home, using enough colour to make a unicorn's eyes water to create a set inspired by Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House (points if you get the reference) and to test out the cyan+magenta+yellow=white light trick. It worked!
