Photo Challenge Week 20 Landscape: Nightowl

May 17, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

As we spent the weekend away I hoped to take some shots for the 'nightowl' landscape while there. These would have been so much lovelier had I taken my tripod along, but not a bad result considering.

Top 8 Makeup Tips For Photoshoots - Amypumpkin13

May 15, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago I asked my great friend Amy -who is an incredibly creative and talented make up artist and all round fabulous individual- to draw up a list of her best photography friendly makeup tips that I could use as a reference to advise people planning a photoshoot. But being the generous girl she is, she only went ahead and made a whole video on the subject! So if are planning a photoshoot, or even any kind of event where you know you're bound to end up on camera give it a watch!

As well as her youtube tutorials, Amy also does some spectacularly artistic and unique SFX makeup which she shares on her Facebook and Instagram (@amypumpkin13). Go ahead and give her a follow. You won't regret it!

This Week: 15/05/2016

This week has been a pretty quiet one really, but quiet is always good. We've done lots of reading, been on a couple of playdates and Gatsby finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of getting up on the roof and meet the Original Roofcat.

In the garden

I don't remember if I ever mentioned what a notorious murderer of plants I once was, but suffice it to say my thumbs could only ever be described as black. But since we moved into this house, I made a decision to overcome my disdain for gardening and ever since I've been nothing but amazed by every beautiful, colourful thing that sprouts up from the soil. I don't know where these Forget-me-nots came from, but they make me happy.

Photo Challenge Week 19 Portrait: Messy Portrait

May 10, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

The theme for this week's photo challenge is to take a messy portrait, so I recruited my sweet kitten Gatsby to be the star of this show and have some fun with wool. I was a bit hesitant to let him do so, as I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that despite the popular trope of cats playing with wool, that it's not a great idea and after a few minutes of having the time of his life, I realised why. He kept trying to eat it! But we soldiered through, stopping every 30 seconds to stop him chewing it and got some totally adorable pet portraits.

A little trip to Clevedon (2/2)

We made a whole lot of plans to visit all of the touristy places that we never saw when we lived in the area. But because we're literally the least motivated explorers ever, and when faced with the choice between doing lots of things, or not, we're probably going to end up just sitting in a pub eating a giant breakfast rather than visiting a Gorge in the rain.Frankly we were more disappointed that we didn't just sleep in.

So on our second day we ventured down to Ladye bay, which we could just about see from our room's window so that I could explore it with my camera and without my heels. While trekking after my husband through foliage and along coastal, dirt paths to find the place before we went to dinner was fun (and by fun, I mean windy) it wasn't really the kind of trip my evening wear was designed to contend with. Pebble beaches are difficult enough as they are!

Some adorable pebble graffiti some creative kids left behind the day before.

Next time, I'm going on the pier. Rain be damned!

All in all it was an exceptional long weekend and we were devastated to leave. Though I doubt it'll be the last we see of the place. I've still got that Gorge to visit.

Becky & Ross' Speedy Portrait Photoshoot at Bridgnorth Castle Gardens

On Friday I was finally reunited with my wonderful friend and P.I.C, Beckles, who I hadn't seen for around a decade and who has since abandoned us all for Scotland to live with her lovely boryfrien Ross. And since they'd traveled over to Bridgnorth to visit for the day, I couldn't resist taking them to the Castle Gardens and grabbing a couple of pictures of them, in the speediest mini shoot there ever was!

Rory spent the weekend we were away with her grand parents, so of course that meant a new dress up costume and as much as she tried to play it cool about missing us, I think she was glad to be home.

A little trip to Clevedon (1/2)

Last week was Chris' birthday, and since he is as brilliant at planning little surprises (hotel room with a sea view anyone?) as he is awful at keeping them secret (he almost made it this time though) we went on an adventure to Clevedon in Somerset. When we lived in the South West, this little seaside town was our favourite haunt and of all of the things that we both achingly miss about living at the coast, our little trips to Clevedon ranks pretty high among them. So for two whole, beautiful, child-free days, we got to pretend to be 19 again and it was glorious.

Photo challenge week 18 Artistic: Texture

May 03, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

There were so many options for the subject 'texture' that I almost didn't know where to start! So I started where my camera was: The kitchen.

I expected I'd find shooting a mushroom in macro would be a bit repulsive, but there's something really captivating about the specificity of those folds under the cap that reminded me of a human iris. Unfortunately I only had my own to photograph to compare, and my eyes are pretty solidly coloured, but then combined the two subjects and found a really cool kind of symmetry (below).

Head over to Instagram and Facebook for more photos, updates and behind the scenes.
See you there!
